Women are 2nd class citizens in Iraq Lets change this
an Iraqi expatriate, can’t apply for an Iraqi passport because she’s
forty, without a husband, her father is thousands of miles away from
her, under the new order of MOI (Ministry of Interior),she has to be
under custodianship, to be granted a passport, she’s not considered an
independent human being just because she is a women, in a system
filled with illiterates who got hired in the last few years because of
their political affiliation not because of their qualification. each
person send her to the other side.
Th issue is not about the current government as much as a law that was
put in place way before 2003 in a way to protect the “Honor” of Iraq
by not allowing women to travel unless they are under custodianship
(Father, Brother or Husband) , and the current system loved it so much
that they did not bother to truly apply what Human Rights they always
talk about to this grave violation
This is from the MOI website
